What are the biggest misconceptions about LED masks?

Think more colours or longer sessions are always better? Discover six common misconceptions about LED masks, wavelengths and expected results.

There are many misconceptions about LED masks. What is true, and what is not? Below, we examine the most common claims so you can better assess what an LED mask actually offers.

Misconception 1: all colours of LED light do the same thing

Each wavelength has a different role.

  • Blue light at 463 nm focuses on acne-related blemishes and excess oil.
  • Amber at 605 nm supports hydration and helps reduce redness and pigmentation.
  • Red at 633 nm supports circulation and processes linked to collagen and elastin.
  • Near-infrared at 830 nm supports the activation of processes that ultimately contribute to skin renewal.
  • Deep near-infrared at 1072 nm supports skin recovery, collagen and deeper layers of the skin.

The right mode therefore depends on what you want to improve.

Misconception 2: a mask with more colours is always better

The number of colours means little when the exact wavelengths and their functions are not explained.

A mask with many coloured lights is not automatically better. Look at the nanometres, the wavelength combinations and the purpose of each mode.

Misconception 3: the longer you wear the mask, the better

The session length is set for the specific device. With the Silk’n LED Face Mask Pro, one session lasts ten minutes. The mask then switches off automatically.

Doubling the session length does not double the results. Follow the instructions and do not use the device more frequently or for longer than recommended.

Misconception 4: you will see the full result after one session

LED is designed for consistent use as part of a routine. Current Silk’n user information notes that initial results may become visible after around two weeks with at least three to four sessions per week. The effect and pace may vary from person to person.

Do not judge an LED mask after a single session.

Misconception 5: all LED masks are the same

LED masks can differ in:

  • the wavelengths used;
  • light intensity;
  • the number and placement of LEDs;
  • light distribution;
  • facial coverage;
  • available modes;
  • recommended session length.

The LED Face Mask Pro combines five wavelengths, seven modes, full-face coverage and a Caeli Lens that distributes light evenly. This makes it technically different from a basic mask that simply displays a few colours.

Misconception 6: LED masks are only for wrinkles

Depending on the mode, LED can be used for fine lines, hydration, redness, pigmentation and acne-related blemishes. Some modes combine several wavelengths to address multiple skin goals at once.

Do not only check whether a mask uses LED. Look at the wavelengths it contains and what its modes actually do.
